Child sexual abuse is a silent epidemic throughout the United States and the world, creating social havoc-for the children, adult survivors, and society. It can be prevented and it can be treated, but a conscious and sustained effort to ensure the safety of the children is both missing and essential.
If individuals, stakeholders, communities, organizations, and policymakers are going to deal with the issue, they must understand the extent to which it is a problem and they must be able to talk about it. To move toward that end, they must first be made aware of what it is, what it does, and what can be done about it.
What is needed now is a movement to mobilize public support for shaping new policies that will bring about sweeping change for children. The time is now. Our children, our future, cannot wait! |
